Christie Teenage and Young Adult Unit

The ‘Christie Teenage and Young Adult Unit’ (TYA) opened in June 2014 thanks to the wonderful generosity of the large number of individuals and organisations who supported the capital appeal.

The TYA is a specialist cancer centre for children, teenagers and young adults up to age 24.

Being faced with a cancer diagnosis at any age is traumatic, but for young people especially it can be absolutely devastating as it comes when it is most unexpected – when they have their whole lives in front of them.

Coping with a potential life limiting disease and cancer treatment can literally stop young people in their tracks, putting education, career plans, sporting ambitions, hobbies and social life on hold.

In addition to first class treatment and care from teenage cancer experts, it is important for young patients to have access to specialist support on the unit to help them cope with cancer treatment and the boredom of having to stay in hospital. Much of this additional support only exists thanks to donations to the Christie Charity’s TYA Activity Fund.

It was with much satisfaction that John and myself acting on behalf of all Daniel’s Light supporters were able to donate £5000 to support the above project. Thanks

Unfortunately as a result of illness no future fundraising events are currently being planned.

For those of you who may wish to donate, the ‘Daniels Light’ collection boxes will continue be available in a variety of shops and businesses in the area.
