Paediatric and teenage cancers

Each year, 4000 children and young people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer – that’s around 10 every day! The types of cancer that affect children are quite different from the cancers that affect teenagers and young adults (TYA) and TYA cancers are different again from the types of cancer that typically affect adults over the age of 25.

Thanks to investment in research, survival has increased dramatically over the past 50 years and today four out of five young patients can be successfully treated. We therefore need to keep this momentum going for the benefit of those patients who will be diagnosed today and in the future.

Leading the research at the Christie is Dr Martin McCabe, who specialises in paediatric oncology, brain tumours and sarcomas.

In January 2018, a small group representing the many supporters of Daniel’s Light were pleased to travel with us to donate £5000 to support Christie research into paediatric and teenage cancers.

Daniel’s Light is as always incredibly grateful to each and everyone of you who continues to support us and helped to keep Daniel’s name alive.

Unfortunately as a result of illness no future fundraising events are currently being planned.

For those of you who may wish to donate, the ‘Daniels Light’ collection boxes will continue be available in a variety of shops and businesses in the area.
